Wish has been supported by 9R1, a year 9 class at The Sweyne Park School in Rayleigh, Essex. We think it’s best if they tell you their story…
Why we’re standing together with Wish by class 9R1
We took part in the First Give project, which is a competition where each Year 9 class chooses a charity to represent and competes to win £1,000 for the charity.
We chose WISH as our charity because, in an age of increased stress and worry, we think it is important for mental health and wellbeing to be protected, and that women’s mental health specifically is an important social issue that is not often talked about.
We raised money for WISH by organising a year group football tournament and a student vs. teachers rounders match. We also raised awareness of WISH by handing out posters and leaflets that we created at these events.
The First Give school final took place on Wednesday 4th May at 5.30 pm. During the final, each class in Year 9 (including us!) delivered a presentation about their chosen charity, and a panel of judges decided on the winning class. The winners were to receive £1,000 for their charity.
We put our presentation together over a number of lessons by mainly using information from Wish’s website along with our own opinions on the topic.
Within our presentation, there was a homemade video made by some students, based on a case study about a girl WISH had helped. Other students made the actual presentation.
When we found out that we’d won, we were very happy and felt proud that we could help WISH.”

Joyce Kallevik, Director of Wish said:
“We are incredibly proud of class 9R1 and how all of their hard work, passion and creativity won the First Give prize for Wish. We know that standing together is the only way we can help improve women’s mental health and it’s inspiring to see these young people working so well together to support the services we provide. Well done them and a huge thank you to everyone at Sweyne Park School for their support.”
